Our world is going through perplexing changes. Never before has man gained so much knowledge of and felt so in control of the world around him, and yet our civilization is closer to disaster than ever. Never before has man had access to spiritual teachings so readily, yet never has our society been so nonchalant about morality and spirituality. Waves of liberty are freeing more and more people from tyranny, but at the same time more and more people are chained to the global machine of material production and consumption.

What is the impact of these changes on different people and their cultures? What are their answers to these challenges? Socrates said, “An unexamined life is not worth living.” There is nothing like the arts to inspire and provoke us to ponder and examine; and young people have the freshest minds and greatest dreams to empower the world.

The Impressions of the World competition will attract the world’s young artists to depict what they perceive as their world, their culture and traditions, their challenges and hopes. The competition will be promoted to tens of thousands of schools and universities worldwide, and conducted and displayed through multiple platforms. This will provide a unique opportunity for people around the world to tell and hear different stories, and to appreciate diverse ways of life. The resulting artwork will be a showcase of the world’s cultures, and a focal point of cultural awakening and revival.
